Browser notifications and sound alerts

Updated August 6, 2026

Turning notifications on

Click the bell icon in the Helpdesk top bar and toggle Enable notifications. The first time you turn it on, your browser will ask for permission to show notifications for this site — allow it to get alerts when the Helpdesk tab isn't focused.

What you can be alerted about

  • A ticket is assigned to me
  • A customer replies on one of my tickets
  • A teammate leaves a note on one of my tickets
  • A new unassigned ticket arrives

Each of these can be turned on or off independently from Settings → Your Profile. "A new unassigned ticket arrives" is off by default, since it can get noisy on a larger team — turn it on if you're often the one picking up new work.

Focus-aware alerting

Sound and browser notifications only fire while the Only alert when tab isn't focused setting is on (the default) and the Helpdesk tab is actually in the background. If you're looking at the tab, you get a quieter in-app cue instead — no sound, no OS popup. You also never get notified about your own actions, or about a ticket you already have open.

Sound and message previews

Turn Play a sound on or off independently of the browser popup. Show message preview in alerts controls whether the notification includes a snippet of the actual message text — turn this off if you'd rather the popup just say a ticket needs attention, without showing message content on a shared screen or lock screen.

The unread badge

While notifications are stacking up in the background, the browser tab's title shows a count, e.g. (3) Inquiru Helpdesk. Clicking a notification (or just returning to the tab) clears it.

Multiple messages in a row

Several rapid messages on the same ticket are coalesced into a single notification rather than firing one after another.

If your browser blocked the permission prompt

The bell icon shows a warning if browser notifications are blocked, with a link to re-enable them in your browser's site settings. Sound and the in-app tab badge still work even if browser popups are blocked.

Known limitation

Notifications only fire while the Helpdesk tab is open somewhere in your browser — closing the tab entirely means no alerts until you reopen it. There's no notification delivery to a closed browser or a mobile device yet.

Light Agents

Notifications default to off for the read-only Light Agent role, since they can't act on tickets anyway. They can still turn them on manually if they'd like to keep an eye on activity.
